Polka dots, symbols of summer lightness on women's clothing or of childhood innocence in the world of Disney, are completely stripped of their familiar associations in this series of paintings.

Fares Cachoux challenges our perception of war, weapons, oppression and death through disguised images that seem almost to set a trap for our subconscious.

In doing so, the artist explores the relationship between image and meaning, creating a tension between what an image appears to show at first glance and the significance he assigns to it.

By creating these hybrid images, is the artist attempting to soften horror, to give colour to war and to what is disturbing? Does this allow us to look for longer, without turning our gaze away?
